The HawthornsThe Hawthorns is a most attractive Country House designed and built by the first Provost of Galashiels and set in 8 acres of gardens and grounds.

The former Coach House now completely renovated provides a modern wing with superb views from the balcony over looking a beautiful walled garden and down the course of the River Tweed to Abbotsford the Home of the famous Scottish author and poet Sir Walter Scott.

There is easy access from the gardens to the riverside that has excellent picnic areas.  Close by are the towns of Galashiels, Melrose and Selkirk with shops, swimming pools, a cinema and numerous good restaurants.  The coast is only 30 miles away and Edinburgh a 50 minute drive.  Locally there are the Border Abbeys of Melrose, Dryburgh, Kelso and Jedburgh.  For the energetic there are beautiful walks including the Southern Upland Way and the Eildon Hills.

St Mary's LochSet between the lakes of Northern England and the towering grandeur of the Highlands, the Scottish Borders has a character that is all it's own.

The land where the Border Reivers rode their disputed boundaries; the land of history folklore and legend; now with it's gentle rolling hills, meandering rivers, ancient Border Abbeys and castles, numerous golf courses and beautiful gardens, it provides a peaceful and relaxing ambience for that special holiday visit.

Enjoy wandering the lanes or strolling along the banks of the River Tweed.  Quiet roads, deserted hills and valleys and miles of forest trails for walking, cycling or pony trekking.  The rivers with their trout and salmon beats are world renowned and many beautiful lochs may be found hidden in the valleys providing not only sport but a peaceful and unique get away from it all experience.
